Psycho

The assignment I am currently working on is an analysis of the motives and themes explored in the movie Psycho, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This movie was based on the novel by Robert Bloch. One of the main challenges to completing this assignment is that I could not find a cheap copy of this movie anywhere, but I did find the 1998 remake. Thankfully, the remake, directed by Gus Van Sant, made incredible efforts to stay true to the original. It is nearly a frame for frame re-shoot. I like Vince Vaughn as Norman, but I don't think Anne Heche has the raw sex appeal to carry off the part of Marion Crane, although I have no complaints about her acting ability.

One of the most interesting things about this movie is it's depiction of sex appeal. It seems to me that Norman is punishing women who turn him on in order to protect his relationship with his mother. In his mind, sexy women are a threat to the (in)stability of his mind and his twisted world. He is a vigilante ridding the world of women who are a threat to male domination, family life, and social order. This is what my paper will be about.

However, I have another obstacle to complete my assignment. I can't find the assignment book that came with my course! I have looked and looked. Fortunately, I had already started working on this assignment and copied the questions for my next few lessons, but I need to find it in the next week or so or I will get behind very quickly. It is a challenge for the distance-learning student to stay organized. If anyone out there is considering taking an online course, be sure to set up an area where you keep all your study materials together. I know it sounds obvious, but I didn't do it at first and now I am probably the most disorganized distance-learning student ever. But, now I have a special table set up in my kitchen where I keep everything, so it's getting better.

Introductory Post

I plan to document and share my journey as a distance-learning student. It will be a nice break from all the studying!

Sorry this initial post is so short, I had originally written out a longer post which was much more satisfying, but it disappeared when I tried to preview and then return to it. I suppose I will have to figure out how to retrieve it. Bear with me while I learn how to be a blogger!
